CTOnews.com, January 27 (Xinhua) Samsung, which led the 5G smartphone market in India last year, recently said it hopes to "democratize 5G in India" in 2023. Samsung wants to make 5G smartphones available to everyone, but even so, Samsung will not stop offering 4G smartphones, mainly for the low end.

Aditya Babbar, head of products and marketing in India at Samsung, recently confirmed that the Galaxy An is the best-selling smartphone line in India in 2022, with more than 62 million customers. Samsung overtook Xiaomi to become the country's largest smartphone OEM in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Samsung also released Galaxy M and Galaxy F devices, the latter for the Indian market only. In spite of this, Galaxy A still seems to be the first choice for Indian budget customers.

Samsung's senior director added that Samsung hopes to remain at the top of smartphone shipments in 2023. To achieve this, the company is betting that 75 per cent of its smartphone business in India will come from 5G devices.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung released the Galaxy A145G and A235G Babbar in India earlier this month, saying that Samsung will continue to bring more 5G phones to India this year.

Even so, Samsung has not given up on 4G. It is difficult for Samsung to bring 5G phones to the price range of 10000 Indian rupees (currently about RMB832). Samsung hopes to "continue to innovate at every price and grow as the market grows." With this in mind, 4G smartphones will continue to exist. At least until 5G technology becomes more affordable.

The Samsung Galaxy A145G recently went on sale in India, starting at 16499 Indian rupees (currently about 1373 yuan). Samsung also released the Galaxy A23 5G phone, which starts at 22999 Indian rupees (currently about 1914 yuan).
