Sponsors will no longer be able to reward developers or organizations through PayPal, and GitHub recommends that sponsors update their payment methods to use credit or debit cards. GitHub officials did not give any further explanation.

In addition, users who have rewarded developers with PayPal will receive an email reminder.

Neither Microsoft GitHub nor PayPal responded to the incident, with Hacker News users reporting that the breakdown in cooperation could be due to security issues, or negotiations between the two companies broke down, such as PayPal's withdrawal fees could be too high, or "it could be PayPal's virtual currency money laundering problem."
