CTOnews.com reported on January 26th that the Tails 5.9 system focusing on anonymous privacy has been released, which mainly solves the error Bug of the previous version of Tails 5.8.It also brings some new features and improvements.

The developers managed to solve most of the problems reported by users in version 5.8 of Tails, including supporting certain graphics cards, such as Intel UHD 750s, by upgrading the kernel to Linux 6.0.12. These graphics problems occur because Tails 5.8 switches to Wayland by default and uses the Linux kernel 5.10 LTS.

Tails 5.9 also fixed the startup of AppImage binaries using the Qt toolkit, such as clipboard encryption and decryption in Bitcoin-Qt and Feather,Kleopatra OpenPGP clients, and the display of application menus in some GTK3 applications with additional software features installed.

Persistent storage has also been improved in activation and backup utilities. In addition, the KeePassXC password Manager fixed three clipboard operations, including copying the passphrase to unlock the database, automatically clearing the password from the clipboard after 10 seconds, and using the automatic typing feature.

CTOnews.com learned that other changes in Tails 5.9 include localizing the home page of the Tor browser when launched from the Tor connection Assistant, now having a simplified error screen when automatically connecting, and deleting the confirmation dialog box when launching an insecure browser.

This release comes with the latest Tor Browser 102.7 anonymous Web browser based on Mozilla Firefox 102.7 ESR and Tor 0.4.7.13. The system is based on and synchronized with the Debian GNU / Linux 11 "Bullseye" repository.

Users can now download Tails 5.9 from the official website to view USB images or traditional ISO images used for media or virtual machines. The next version of Tails 5.10 is scheduled for February 21, 2023.
