Communication World Network News (CWW) according to reliable sources, the Intelligent Network and Services Consortium (SNS JU) recently adopted its second research and innovation work plan (2023) to promote 6G research in Europe.

On December 14, 2022, SNS JU adopted the Research and Innovation (Renewal I) work Plan 2023-2024, including information on the solicitation of Horizon Europe project proposals in 2023. The RenewI work plan (Annex II to the 2023 SNS annual work plan) will serve as the basis for the second proposal solicitation of SNS, providing dedicated public funding of 132 million euros (currently about 975 million yuan).

The workplan establishes the second phase of the SNS road map, expanding 35 SNS Phase I research and innovation (Renewal I) projects launched in January 2023. The focus of the work plan is to complement the research and design of enabling technologies through more system-oriented research and specialized prototyping and experiments, as well as long-term research and design of disruptive concepts. It will further address the technical and commercial realization of the 6G vision and support the development of 6G standardization by covering industrial and commercial aspects, sustainability and social challenges, joint activities in the field of microelectronics and a series of key international cooperation activities.

The second phase, which will be launched on January 17, 2023, includes the following three supplementary processes. Process B: research revolutionary technological advances, prepare for 6G, promote revolutionary advances in animal networking, devices, and software, with the goal of achieving low to medium technology readiness (TRL) and providing innovative solutions for real-life networks, including international cooperation with the United States. The process C:SNS system enabler and proof of concept (PoC) aims to further develop, unite and consolidate Europe-wide pilot infrastructure to support all stages of SNS development. Process D: large-scale SNS trials and pilots in vertical areas, exploring and demonstrating the infrastructure needed for technologies, advanced applications, and services in vertical areas, focusing on two priorities: cars and health, smart cities, agriculture, or education. These three processes will be complemented by SNS Coordination and support Action (CSA) to address social challenges related to SNS technology.

It is noteworthy that the 2023 SNS Renewi work Plan also highlights some indicative Renewi themes for 2024, which will be approved later in 2023 and will form the basis for the third proposal solicitation of SNS in 2024, providing funding of approximately 129 million euros (currently about 953 million yuan).
