According to reliable sources, the European Telecommunications Standardization Association (ETSI) is recently forming an alliance with the European 6G Intelligent Network and Service Industry Association (6G-IA) to take a step towards the next generation of mobile devices.

David Boswarthick, director of new technology at ETSI, said: "ETSI is at the forefront of innovation and we recognize the important role of cutting-edge research in achieving strong relevant world-class standards. Our close cooperation with 6G-IA demonstrates our common interest in Europe's evolving technology, which is certainly beneficial to both organizations."

Colin Willcock, Nokia's Colin Willcock, chairman of 6G-IA, said: "6G-IA is promoting the development of 6G in Europe through an intelligent network and services partnership with the European Commission. This major research project will invest at least 1.8 billion euros in 6G research between 2021 and 2027." He said that joining ETSI is a natural progress for 6G-IA.

With regard to this cooperation, 6G-IA and ETSI jointly said that their cooperation reflects the integration of European research results of 5G, 6G and related technologies into the broader field of standardization.

In addition, according to ETSI, the first phase of the 5G / 6G research project is under way, many of which will play a key role in the definition of next-generation networks. ETSI will hold a meeting in February at its headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, Sofia, which will also provide a perfect platform for these new projects to showcase their goals and plans and to communicate with standards experts on their standardization roadmap.

According to public information, 6G-IA is headquartered in Brussels and its board members include representatives of Deutsche Telekom, Orange, TIM and suppliers such as Ericsson, Huawei and Samsung. 6G-IA brings together global industry communities, including operators, manufacturers, research institutions, universities, vertical industries and enterprises, and industry associations. The Association carries out a wide range of activities in strategic areas, including standardization, spectrum, R & D projects, technical skills, cooperation with key vertical sectors (especially the development of trials) and international cooperation.
