CTOnews.com, January 25 (Xinhua)-- Walmart is raising the wages of its American hourly workers to attract front-line workers, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Starting from next month, the starting salary for American workers in Walmart stores and warehouses will rise from $12 an hour (currently about 81 yuan) to at least $14 (about 95 yuan), local time said in an internal notice to employees.

For comparison, the minimum wage for Wal-Mart's competitors, including Amazon (AMZN) and TGT (TGT), is $15 an hour.

Us media pointed out that these changes are the latest in a series of pay increases made by Wal-Mart to narrow the gap with its competitors. A Wal-Mart spokesman said the current average hourly wage for Wal-Mart hourly workers is about $17 (currently about 115 yuan).
