CTOnews.com learned that Intel had previously said it planned to invest 80 billion euros in European semiconductors over the next 10 years, while the Italian project would be an advanced packaging and assembly plant.

In a statement to Reuters, Intel said: "We continue to discuss with Italy," adding that it is still "excited about the project."

According to reports, this uncertainty is partly due to the fact that the Eurochip Act has not yet been approved, which is expected to release funds to boost the European semiconductor industry, including subsidies to companies including Intel to set up manufacturing facilities.
