CTOnews.com, January 23 (Xinhua)-- "Apple wants India to account for 25% of its production, up from the current 5%," Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal said at a meeting on Monday.

"Apple, another success story," says Piyush Goyal, "they have made about 5-7 per cent of their products in India. If I remember correctly, their goal is to increase it to 25 per cent. Most of their new products come from India and are made in India."

In fact, Apple has been making big bets in India since it began assembling the iPhone in India through Wirtronic in 2017, and has since worked further with Foxconn to tie in with the Indian government's policy of promoting local manufacturing.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's minister of electronics and information technology at Tuyuan Pexels, said on Twitter on Monday that Apple's exports to India reached $1 billion in December last year.

CTOnews.com has reported that J.P.Morgan analysts predicted last year that 1/4 of Apple's products will be made outside China by 2025, up from 5 per cent now.
