Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com January 23, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman (Mark Gurman) said in the latest Power On newsletter that Apple is developing M3 chips for MacBook Air and iMac internally. The chip will be manufactured using a more efficient 3nm process.
Gurman said it is not clear when Apple will launch the new MacBook Air and iMac, but Gurman expects the M3 chip to be available later this year or early next year.
Gurman first mentioned the M3 chip in June last year. He pointed out at the time that Apple was developing M3 chips for the 13-inch / 15-inch MacBook Air and the new iMac. Gurman said at the time that the M3 chip would be launched this year, and now he has revised the launch date of the chip.
Apple announced earlier this month that the MacBook Pro series includes new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, as well as M2 Pro chips in the Mac Mini. The chips are based on the second-generation 5nm process, which is still an updated version of Apple's standard 5nm process used to make its M1 chips.
CTOnews.com learned that compared with the 5-nanometer process, the 3-nanometer process can increase speed by up to 15% and reduce power consumption by 30%. TSMC began mass production of 3nm chips last year, but the technology will not reach the manufacturer's new plant in Arizona until 2026.
