CTOnews.com, January 22, German newspaper Handelsblatt quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that the US chipmaker Wolfspeed plans to cooperate with German auto parts supplier Zaifu to spend more than 2 billion euros (currently about 14.7 billion yuan) to build a factory in Sal, Germany.

It is reported that the plant is expected to start production within 4 years, is expected to become the world's largest silicon carbide semiconductor factory. It is worth mentioning that the German supplier Zaifu will take a minority stake in the plant.

Currently, a spokesman for the Sal State Ministry of economy declined to comment. Wolfspeed did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal working hours. ZF declined to comment.

According to public information, Wolfspeed was founded in 1987, formerly known as Kerry Technology Company (Kerry) Cree, changed to its current name in October 2021, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, is a major LED factory in the United States. The company's silicon carbide chips have a clear advantage in the electric and hybrid vehicle markets and are likely to gradually replace traditional chips in the coming years.
