Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com January 21 news, Germany GPU maintenance service center KrisFix received 48 irreparable AMD RX 6800 XT 6900 graphics cards in 3 weeks. These graphics cards can not be repaired, there is a short circuit on the SoC guide, memory guide and memory controller rail, and even the GPU chips of some graphics cards are broken.

KrisFix initially attributed part of the cause to AMD's Adrenalin 22.11.2 driver. In order to determine whether the driver can damage the GPU chip, KrisFix conducted 150 hours of non-stop testing, basically ruled out this possibility.

After excluding the driver, ask the affected customer why they chose to send the card to his maintenance service department instead of RMA. All graphics cards seem to have warranty labels and seals, but most customers say they don't have invoices. Another user with an invoice reported that the graphics card was running in a cold, humid basement.

KrisFix initially did not believe this was the reason, but later confirmed the fact that most of the defective graphics cards were purchased from third parties on Ebay-like sites in late November / early December 2022 and were broken after only a few days of operation.

CTOnews.com learned that KrisFix now believes that these defective graphics cards are backlog AMD cards that have not been put into use. The defective GPU encountered by KrisFix is definitely new. This probably means that most of the defective cards come from a batch of unused cryptocurrency mining cards, and these graphics cards may be stored in places with high air humidity for a long time.
