CTOnews.com, January 21, Microsoft has been trying to force Windows users to use Edge browsers for several years, often forcing links to open in browsers using the microsoft-edge:// protocol.

MSEdgeRedirect 0.7.3.0, a tool for modifying browser protocols, is now available for download from GitHub. This third-party tool can solve Microsoft's problem of stubbornly binding Edge to various parts of Windows 10 and Windows 11, such as Windows widgets or search. The latest version addresses the situation where the application needs to update the IFEO file after each Microsoft Edge update. In addition, there are other improvements and fixes.

The / update command line option has been temporarily removed. This will be improved in 0.8.0.0.

Replace it with the directory node of IFEO pass-through. Permanently fixed an issue requiring IFEO files to be updated.

CTOnews.com has learned that MSEdgeRedirect is still in the testing phase and is expected to be updated in the future. According to the roadmap released in the project's GitHub repository, MSEdgeRedirect version 0.8.0.0 will bring each user's activation mode and overhauled installer / updater. The version will be released this spring. As for the summer, MSEdgeRedirect developers plan to redo the user interface UI and update the documentation. Finally, version 1.0.0.0 will bring refactored code and will be released before the end of the summer.
