Samsung's "Flex In & Out" display rotates 360 degrees, meaning it supports folding inward and outward, according to The Verge.

In addition, the display uses different hinge designs and is said to produce less obvious creases. This is because the "droplet hinge" allows the display to form a looser shape when it folds inward-like water droplets. CTOnews.com learned that this more subtle hinge also puts less pressure on the display.

This is not the first time Samsung has shown the "Flex In & Out" prototype, embracing a foldable omni-directional design. According to reports, a "Flex In & Out" display screen was unveiled at the Korea International Information display Conference (IMID) in 2021. However, the way is different, the display folds like an "S" and is divided into multiple parts. As of the August 2022 release of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Samsung Fold series still uses inward folded displays.

However, the new screen is likely to appear in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 device. It is rumored that the device may have less obvious creases due to the use of a similar hinge design.

This design will address the "U"-shaped hinges that some users consider defective in Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, which also have prominent creases. Competitors have introduced droplet hinges to create designs with smaller creases.
