It is very difficult to judge the sound quality of HomePod 2 at such a media conference, and I have reservations until I receive the evaluation machine. When Apple played "The weeknd" and other pop music in the Tribeca attic, my first impression was that it was not loud.

Although it provides 360-degree surround sound, I find that the audio does not feel too three-dimensional. With Yebba's next track, Boomerang, Apple hopes to emphasize the spatial audio compatibility of HomePod.

CTOnews.com learned that The Verge's Chris Welch says:

Apple likes to use live recordings from Hotel California to demonstrate HomePods, and recordings beautifully made using a variety of microphones really provide a wonderful sound field.

Like the original, HomePod 2 shows rich sound quality, multi-directional sound that fills the room, and emphasizes high-end clarity and detail.

When used alone, its sound quality may be at the top level with Amazon's Echo Studio, Sonos speakers and other products. In the live version of Hotel California by the Eagles, two HomePod 2 sounds great together.

Jacob Kroll of The Street says he needs more time to evaluate to come to a conclusion:

Like the original HomePod, the latest version provides clear, rich audio and vibrant sound to provide more details. I got this from this brief audition, but the most impressive thing is that it is still very loud, and the wide sound field allows you to hear the different elements of the repertoire.

Overall, I need more time to evaluate Apple's latest smart speakers. But it is fair to say that it can compete with other high-end smart speakers (such as the original HomePod) and competing products from Bose, Sonos and even Amazon. I still insist that pairing two of them together is better than a bar speaker.
