CTOnews.com, January 20, Microsoft released a preview update of Win11 Build 25281 and Build 22621.1180x22623.1180 for Dev and Beta channel Windows Insider project members earlier today. PhantomOcean3, the developer of ViveTool, has found that Microsoft is suspected of removing the desktop search function.

The desktop search feature appeared in the Win11 Build 25120 preview as a hidden feature in May 2022. In the latest version of Build 25281, although the relevant EXE file still exists, the relevant functionality has been invalidated after enabling the relevant Feature ID through the ViveTool tool.

Starting with this version, Microsoft began to try different ways to deal with the appearance of Windows Spotlight (Windows focus). All processes will continue to share existing core Windows Spotlight functions, such as hovering over icons on the desktop, right-clicking icons on the desktop, and double-clicking icons on the desktop.

The processing of Spotlight will include a richer UI that revolves around displaying the title and description and learning more about displaying images on the desktop through Spotlight. CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft is also trying to switch between different images in different ways, including previewing, full-screen experience, and minimizing the experience.

Dev channel's internal testers will see different ways of handling it on their PC, so not everyone will see the same content.

To enable Windows Spotlight on PC, right-click your desktop and select Personalization, and then select a new Spotlight theme. In addition, users can directly enable Windows Spotlight, please go to Settings > Personalization > background and select the options under the Personalization background drop-down menu.
