The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that in 2022, the communications industry comprehensively promoted the implementation of the 14th five-year Plan, and telecommunications business revenue continued to grow rapidly, showing the development characteristics of a trend for the better, structural optimization and enhanced momentum; appropriate advance deployment for 5G, gigabit and other new infrastructure construction, constantly strengthening the supporting role of digital development; and upgrading the supply of information services, continuously injecting digital new momentum into economic development.

CTOnews.com learned that data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that China's telecom business revenue totaled 1.58 trillion yuan in 2022, an increase of 8.0 percent over the previous year and maintaining a high growth level since 2014. According to the same unit price of the previous year, the total volume of telecommunications services for the whole year reached 1.75 trillion yuan, an increase of 21.3% over the previous year.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in 2022, the growth trend of the communications industry is improving, and the contribution rate of emerging businesses has exceeded 60%; the basic capacity of the network has been continuously enhanced, strengthening the base for the development of the digital economy; the scale of connected users has continued to expand, and the ability of data collection has been significantly improved; industry investment and convergence applications have driven the growth of demand for the digital economy.

The following are the main contents of the communications industry statistical bulletin of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2022:

First, the growth trend of the industry is improving, and the contribution rate of emerging business has exceeded 60% of the telecom business volume, showing a trend of rapid growth. In 2022, China's telecom business revenue totaled 1.58 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.0 percent over the previous year, maintaining a high growth level since 2014. According to the same unit price of the previous year, the total volume of telecommunications services for the whole year reached 1.75 trillion yuan, an increase of 21.3% over the previous year.

The business structure is further optimized. The revenue-increasing role of emerging businesses has been increasing. Emerging digital services, such as data centers, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of things, have developed rapidly. Revenue has increased by 32.4% over the previous year, driving the growth of telecom business revenue by 5.1%. The contribution rate to the growth of telecom business income reached 64.2%. Traditional services, mainly mobile data traffic, broadband access, voice and short messages, still play a stabilizing role, with revenue up 1.7% over the previous year, accounting for 66.8% of telecom business revenue, driving telecom business revenue up 1.2 percentage points.

The price of integrated services continues to decline. The communications industry implemented the spirit of increasing speed and reducing fees, promoted the average cost of broadband and dedicated lines of small and medium-sized enterprises to be reduced by more than 10% over the previous year, and implemented precise fee reduction for special groups such as households out of poverty, the elderly, and the disabled. We will continue to reduce the total cost of social life and production and help enterprises develop digitally.

Second, the basic capacity of the network has been continuously enhanced, and the breadth and depth of network coverage on the base of digital economic development has been continuously expanded. China has built the largest optical fiber and mobile broadband network in the world. By the end of 2022, the total length of optical cable lines in China had reached 59.58 million km, a net increase of 4.77 million km over the end of last year. The fixed network has gradually leapt from 100 gigabit to gigabit. By the end of 2022, the number of 10G PON ports with gigabit service capacity has reached 15.23 million, nearly double the level at the end of last year, and 110cities in the country have reached the standard of gigabit city construction. Mobile network remains the global leader in 5G construction. By the end of 2022, China has built and opened 2.312 million 5G base stations, accounting for more than 60% of the total number of base stations in the world. While continuously deepening the coverage of prefecture-level cities and towns and rural areas, the number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people has reached 16.4, an increase of 6.3 over the end of last year.

Data center layout and data processing capabilities are continuously optimized. As an important carrier for the exchange, calculation and storage of data information, the three basic telecommunications enterprises continue to increase investment in data centers. By the end of 2022, the number of data center racks providing services to the public had reached 818000, a net increase of 84000 over the end of last year. Among them, the number of racks in the central and western regions accounted for 21.9% of Prida, an increase of 0.6 percentage points over the end of last year, and the situation of over-concentration of data centers in the east has improved. Third, the scale of connected users continues to expand, and the ability of data collection has significantly improved the leading global level of 5G user development. By the end of 2022, the number of mobile phone users in China is 1.683 billion, and the population penetration rate has risen to 119.2 per 100 people, which is higher than the global average of 106.2 per 100 people. Among them, 5G mobile phone users reached 561 million, accounting for 33.3% of mobile phone users, 2.75 times the global average (12.1%).

The scale of gigabit users is expanding rapidly. By the end of 2022, the number of fixed broadband access users in China is 590 million, and the population penetration rate is 41.8 per 100, which is much higher than the global average of 20.8 per 100. Among them, the number of fixed broadband users with 100Mbps and above access rates reached 554 million, accounting for 93.9% of the broadband users, far higher than the global average of about 65%. The number of fixed broadband users with 1000Mbps and above access rates was 91.75 million, which was 2.7 times that at the end of last year, accounting for 15.6%. The total access bandwidth of fixed broadband users reached 199.33 million Gbps, an increase of 43% over the same period last year. The signed bandwidth of each household has reached 367.6Mbps per household, providing a guarantee for high-speed data flow.

The "thing" connection is faster than the "human" connection. Mobile animal networking has ushered in an important period of development. by the end of 2022, the total number of terminal connections of mobile networks in China has reached 3.528 billion, of which 1.845 billion cellular end users represent the number of "things" connections. since the number of "things" connections exceeded the number of "people" connections at the end of August 2022, the proportion of "things" connections has risen to 52.3%, and the foundation of the Internet of everything has been continuously consolidated. The scale of cellular Internet of things terminals used in public service, car networking, smart retail, smart home and other fields reached 496 million, 375 million, 250 million and 192 million respectively.

Fourth, industry investment and integrated applications will drive the demand growth of the digital economy and maintain the growth of industry investment. In 2022, the total investment in fixed assets of the communications industry was 419.3 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3% on the basis of the high base of the previous year. Investment was further tilted towards new infrastructure, with investment in 5G exceeding 180.3 billion yuan, accounting for 43 percent, while investment in Internet and data communications grew the fastest, up 26.2 percent over the previous year.

Data traffic consumption is active. In 2022, under the support of gigabit optical fiber network, 5G and other new infrastructure, the popularity of large traffic applications such as live broadcast and the application of Internet of things in some areas, mobile Internet traffic, fixed broadband access traffic, Internet of things terminal access traffic are showing a rapid growth trend. For the whole year, mobile Internet access traffic reached 261.8 billion GB, an increase of 18.1% over the previous year, monthly average household access traffic (DOU) reached 15.2GB / household month, an increase of 1.84GB / household month over the previous year, fixed broadband access traffic increased by 47.2%, and the access traffic of Internet of things terminals grew by 64.4%. Digital consumption, which is carried by data flow, widely permeates all areas of production and life services, and constantly innovates the content and form of consumption.

Converged applications continue to expand. In 2022, achievements in integrated applications in the fields of intelligent manufacturing, intelligent medical care, intelligent education, and digital government affairs continue to emerge. More than 4000 "5G + Industrial Internet" projects have been invested and built across the country, creating a number of 5G fully connected factories. Telecom enterprises use 5G slicing technology to provide more than 14000 5G virtual private networks, helping various industries to speed up the digital transformation.

In 2022, the whole industry successfully completed major communications service support tasks such as the 20th CPC National Congress and the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, carried out special actions for the Internet industry and strengthened App governance, continuously improved the service level, adapted to the new characteristics of the epidemic and new requirements for prevention and control, and continuously enhanced the support capacity of big data for epidemic prevention and control communications, and made positive contributions to the regularization of epidemic prevention and control and the overall situation of economic and social development.
