CTOnews.com learned that China Telecom said that this verification used Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system independently developed and constructed by China, adopted 3GPP R17 NTN standard protocol, broke through the protocol matching problems such as frequency synchronization, time synchronization and timing relationship enhancement brought by geostationary orbit satellite communication, realized 5G NTN end-to-end full link technology penetration, successfully completed synchronization, broadcasting, access, data transmission and other communication use cases, as well as multi-terminal access. Multi-terminal interworking test, communication function is normal, performance meets expectations.

According to introduction, the application of 5G NTN technology to satellite network can change the customization and privacy characteristics of satellite communication, and can obtain a wide range of potential semiconductor devices, components and solution suppliers 'support on the basis of a large number of inherited terrestrial mobile communication technologies, effectively reducing the construction and maintenance cost of satellite communication system.

Specifically, this verification is based on the existing network architecture of Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system. The 5G NTN base station is accessed at the gateway station side and connected to the ground core network. The terminal connects Tiantong-1 satellite, gateway station, 5G NTN base station and ground core network through S frequency band to realize interconnection with the ground network. The verification results confirm the technical feasibility of applying the 3GPP R17 NTN standard to the Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system, laying a technical foundation for the subsequent commercial application of 5G NTN based on the Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system.
