CTOnews.com, January 20, the Prime Video app on Apple TV 4K added support for Dolby Vision a few days ago, but Amazon withdrew that support today, returning to HDR10 at the highest level.

Apple TV 4K users were ecstatic earlier this week when they discovered that the first four episodes of the Lord of the Rings: rings of Power (The Rings of Power) tag in the Prime Video app supported the Dolby horizon.

However, Amazon withdrew the tag a day after adding the tag, and now Lord of the Rings: the Ring of Power is back on HDR10. HDR10 is initiated by Samsung and is a competitor to Dolby Horizon.

CTOnews.com Lecture: the HDR10 Media profile (commonly known as HDR10) is an open high dynamic range video standard announced by the Consumer Technology Association on August 27, 2015. It is the most widely used HDR format.

HDR10 is not backward compatible with SDR. It includes HDR static metadata, but not dynamic metadata. It does not provide the ability to optimize content to accommodate consumer display capabilities based on the intention of the content creator.

Amazon has been a supporter of Samsung's HDR10 standard for the past few years, but it offered Dolby horizon versions for some TV dramas in September last year. However, only FireTV devices support the Dolby horizon, so Apple TV 4K users will be very excited to see the Dolby horizon mark on Prime Video a few days ago.

Apple TV 4K has supported Dolby Horizon since 2017 and added the HDR10+ standard to the 2022 release last year. The addition of HDR10+ to the latest devices has been welcomed by Apple TV users because of Samsung's dominance as a TV maker and the format favored by most top streaming services.
