According to researchers, cybercrime gangs 'revenues have fallen by 40 percent as victims refuse to pay ransoms.

According to public sources, ransomware attackers extorted at least $456.8 million (currently about 3.097 billion yuan) from victims in 2022, down from $765.6 million (currently about 5.191 billion yuan) the previous year.

Companies, governments, schools and even hospitals around the world are often victims of ransomware hackers. Public sources show that ransomware will be active for an average of just 70 days by 2022, down from 153 days in 2021 and 265 days in 2020.

But despite the revenue decline, the number of unique ransomware variants reportedly in operation surged in 2022.
