January 19 news, according to foreign media reports, data from research institutions show that Samsung Electronics, currently the world's largest memory chip manufacturer, was affected by the decline in the price and demand for memory chips in the second half of last year. The revenue of their semiconductor business is also affected, but for the whole year, they are still the semiconductor manufacturers with the highest revenue.

Samsung Electronics' semiconductor business accounted for 10.9 per cent of global semiconductor revenue with revenues of $65.585 billion last year (currently about 443.355 billion yuan), making it the only company with a share of more than 10 per cent, according to the research institute.

However, the research institute's report also shows that the decline in demand for memory chips has also led to a decline in revenue from Samsung Electronics's semiconductor business last year, down from $73.197 billion in 2021 (currently about 494.812 billion yuan), down 10.4% from a year earlier.

After Samsung Electronics, the top 10 semiconductor suppliers by revenue are Intel, SK Hynix, Qualcomm, Micron, Broadcom, AMD, Texas Instruments, MediaTek and Apple. Revenue from Intel, SK Hynix and Micron also declined year-on-year, while the rest of the manufacturers showed some growth, with the highest growth rate of AMD up 42.6% year-on-year.

However, the semiconductor manufacturers mentioned in the research institute's report do not include wafer foundry TSMC. TSMC reported revenue of $75.881 billion last year (currently about 512.956 billion yuan), up more than 30 per cent from a year earlier. Therefore, if you count SMC, they will be the largest manufacturer, while Samsung Electronics will be the second largest manufacturer.
