CTOnews.com, January 19 (Xinhua)-- Steam Mall launched the 2023 Lunar New year sale today. Although officials say they plan to replace the Lunar New year sale with spring sale, it is still held as scheduled this year.

The Lunar New year sale on Steam, which dates back to 2016, is a celebration for developers and customers springing up from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

CTOnews.com found that this year's Steam Lunar New year sale is mainly based on works by Chinese distributors, including "the Legend of the Fairy Sword", "Destiny" and "Shadow Torch City" with discounts to varying degrees.

As to why the Lunar New year sale should be stopped, V explained that it had received feedback over the years that the Lunar New year was often too close to the December festival sale.

V believes that many publishers will still offer game discounts during the Lunar New year through custom discount tools, but it will be more beneficial for customers if there is a longer gap between large seasonal specials across Steam.

According to the official plan, the Steam 2023 spring sale will open from March 16 to March 23.
