Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens OC_Formula for the clue delivery against the current! CTOnews.com, January 19 (Xinhua)-- following a wave of layoffs in the US technology industry, Microsoft announced today that it will cut 10, 000 jobs by the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2023, accounting for about 4.5 per cent of its 220000 workforce.
Microsoft's 10,000 layoffs have spread to the gaming division, including Bethesda Game Studios (Bethesda Game Studios), the developer of the Ancient Scroll and radiation series, and 343Industries, the developer of Halo: infinity, according to Bloomberg.
In addition, it is reported that Microsoft's HoloLens business and some engineering departments will also make layoffs.
CTOnews.com learned that another report from Gaming Lords said 343 Industries employees had suffered a "large number" of layoffs, which were said to be the worst for "employees who work in a single room". Journalist Jason Schreier also confirmed this claim, with several employees saying the company had been "badly hit". Kotaku also claims to have confirmed that some developers of The Coalition, a studio in Vancouver, Canada, founded by Microsoft, are being fired.
Gary Waliczek, chief engineer of Xbox growth and loyalty, tweeted on Wednesday: "the gaming industry has been affected by layoffs, possibly including people on my team," and later deleted the message.
Renee Sogueco, Bethesda's public relations manager, wrote: "well, it happened! today, I was fired by Bethesda because of Microsoft layoffs, so now I'm back in the market... I'm looking forward to what happens next."
Kevin Schmitt, the senior designer of Halo: infinity, also confirmed that he was fired along with video producer Jesse Stipek and community manager Sam Luanghot of Ancient Scrolls Online.
Microsoft said the layoffs were "in response to macroeconomic conditions and changing customer priorities". Microsoft is deliberately targeting employees it believes are "underperforming" at least in some parts of the company, according to a report released Wednesday by Business Insider.
