For users who have purchased the first generation HomePod, buying a new HomePod to form a stereo seems to be a good choice. However, Apple officials confirmed that the two generations could not be paired with stereo.

Apple said in an official press release that two HomePod speakers of the same model are required to form a HomePod stereo combination, such as two HomePod minis, two HomePods (second generation) or two HomePods (first generation).

In addition, the voice recognition feature of the new HomePod will be available later this spring through a software update, and users who purchase it currently will not be able to use it.

The new HomePod has built-in temperature and humidity sensors, and voice recognition detects smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and sends notifications to users after recognition. Voice recognition should not be relied upon when users are in potentially harmful environments or in high-risk or emergency situations. Voice recognition requires an updated version of the Family Architecture, which will be rolled out in a separate update to the Family App. It requires all Apple devices connected to home accessories to use the latest version of software.

In terms of design, the appearance of the new HomePod consists of a seamless sound-transparent mesh and a backlit trackpad, available in white and a new midnight color, the latter composed of 100% recycled fabric and equipped with a woven power cord of the same color.

In terms of acoustic performance, HomePod features a custom-developed high-amplitude woofer, a motor-driven diaphragm with an amplitude of up to 20 mm, a built-in bass equalizer microphone, and an array of five beam-forming tweeters at the bottom to create an acoustic experience. The S7 chip combines software and system sensing technology to provide more advanced computational audio.
