CTOnews.com reported on January 19 that Apple today pushed the iOS / iPadOS 16.3 RC update (build number: 20D47) to iPhone and iPad users, 42 days after the last release.

Apple announced today that advanced data protection is being extended outside the United States. Starting with iOS 16.3, security features will be available globally, and users can choose to enable end-to-end encryption for many other iCloud data categories, including photos, notes, voice memos, message backups, device backups, and more.

Measured by CTOnews.com partners, the advanced data protection feature of Guizhou on Apple iCloud Cloud has now been enabled.

By default, Apple stores encryption keys for certain iCloud data types on its servers to ensure that users can recover their data if they lose access to their Apple ID accounts. If the user enables advanced data protection, the encryption key is removed from Apple's server and stored only on the user's device, preventing Apple, law enforcement, or anyone else from accessing the data, even if the iCloud server is compromised.

ICloud has provided end-to-end encryption for 14 data categories without advanced data protection enabled, including messages (excluding backups), passwords stored in iCloud keychains, health data, Apple map search history, Apple Card transactions, and more. Advanced data Protection extends this protection to most iCloud categories, with major exceptions including mail, contacts, and calendar applications.

Advanced data Protection (Advanced Data Protection) was first launched in the United States in December for iOS 16.2 users, and Apple said it would be available to the rest of the world in early 2023. To use this feature, all users' devices must be updated to the version of Apple software in their country that supports advanced data protection, including iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, macOS 13.2, tvOS 16.3 and watchOS 9.3.

Apple introduced support for physical security keys in iOS 16.3 as an additional protection for Apple ID. Apple ID's security key will give users the option to add a third-party security key to their account, which will be required for authentication when logging in to a new device or otherwise accessing Apple ID.

In addition, Apple has added a new guide to iOS 16.3 to help and guide users on how to transfer and control music from iPhone to HomePod. Users can move the iPhone close to the HomePod to view playback controls or to transfer audio between devices.
