The blue area below M2 Pro is the GPU area, with 19 GPU cores. From the layout point of view, the M2 Pro should be able to have 20 cores of GPU, but Apple has set it as 19 cores, probably for the purpose of increasing production. On the memory side, M2 Pro still uses LPDDR5 memory and fails to use the latest LPDDR5x model.

CTOnews.com learned that the M2 Pro chip uses a second-generation 5-nanometer process, with a total of 40 billion transistors integrated inside, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the M1 Pro chip and double compared to the M2 chip. M2 Pro chip realizes the unified memory bandwidth of 200GB / s, which is twice that of M2 chip, and provides low latency unified memory up to 32GB.

In terms of performance, Apple says the new 10-core or 12-core CPU contains up to eight high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores, so its multithreading speed is up to 20% faster than the 10-core CPU of the M1 Pro chip. App such as Adobe Photoshop is faster when dealing with high-intensity workflows, and compiles up to 2.5 times faster than MacBook Pro,Xcode with the fastest Intel processor.

M2 Pro has a graphics processor of up to 19 cores, three more cores than M1 Pro chips, and a larger L2 cache, and graphics processing speed is up to 30% faster than M1 Pro chips.

In addition, the M2 Pro contains Apple's new 16-core neural network engine, which can perform up to 15.8 trillion operations per second, up to 40 per cent faster than previous chips. The M2 Pro chip is also equipped with a media processing engine that can accelerate codec hardware for video including H.264, HEVC and ProRes, and support simultaneous playback of multiple 4K or 8K ProRes videos while maintaining extremely low power consumption.
