According to the preliminary statistics of Gartner, the total revenue of semiconductors worldwide in 2022 was $601.7 billion (currently about 4.07 trillion yuan), an increase of 1.1 percent from $595 billion (currently about 4.03 trillion yuan) in 2021. The total revenue of the top 25 semiconductor manufacturers grew by 2.8% in 2022, accounting for 77.5% of the market.

Data show that revenue in the semiconductor market fell 10.4% in 2022 mainly due to a decline in memory and NAND flash memory sales, with Samsung Electronics still ranking first in shipments. Intel ranks second with a market share of 9.7%. Intel's revenue fell 19.5% due to a sharp decline in the consumer PC market and fierce competition in the core business of x86 processors.

Memory accounted for about 25% of semiconductor sales in 2022, and its revenue fell by 10%, making it the worst-performing device category. As the original manufacturers of electronic devices began to reduce the memory inventory accumulated in the forecast of stronger demand, by mid-2022, the memory market had shown signs of a sharp drop in demand. The situation has deteriorated to the point where most memory companies have announced capital expenditure (capex) cuts in 2023, and some have cut wafer production in an effort to reduce inventory levels and try to rebalance the market.

Non-memory revenue grew by 5.3% overall in 2022, but the performance varied widely among device categories. Analog devices ranked first with an increase of 19%, followed by discrete devices with an increase of 15%. Supported by long-term growth trends in automotive electrification, industrial automation and energy transformation, there is strong demand in automotive and industrial end markets, which in turn promotes the growth of analog and discrete devices.
