CTOnews.com January 18, Oracle released the VirtualBox 7.0.6 open source cross-platform virtualization software update, which is the third stable update of the VirtualBox 7.0series and supports updated kernels and various improvements.

VirtualBox 7.0.6 was released two months after the release of VirtualBox 7.0.4 and introduced initial support for the upcoming Linux 6.2 kernel family, as well as initial support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1 operating system kernels, and initial support for building Unbreakable Enterprise (UEK7) kernels on Oracle Linux 8.

Most importantly, this update introduces generic changes in the Settings dialog box, fixes virtual machine grouping in GUI when virtual machines are created or modified from the command line, solves the problem of network outages after loading saved state, and introduces generic DnD improvements.

Also fixed handling of temporary directory creation mode in Guest Control, guru running FreeBSD loader on older Intel CPU without unlimited guest support, and missing-- directory switch for guestcontrol mktemp command.

CTOnews.com learned that the VirtualBox 7.0.6 update improves mouse integration by providing guests with extended host mouse status and adds support for adding multiple VMDK image variant sizes, such as monolithicFlat, monolithicSparse, twoGbMaxExtentSparse, and twoGbMaxExtentFlat.

Another interesting change in this release is in VBoxManage-- the audio option has been deprecated. Instructing users to use the-- audio-driver and-- audio-enabled options instead, developers say they will provide more flexibility when changing audio drivers and / or controlling audio capabilities in VirtualBox.
