The update has been launched. The new firmware also brings a more useful feature: the ability to check the battery health of a smartwatch from a paired smartphone.

New software updates for Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro bring the ability to check battery health through the Samsung Members app on connected phones. The new feature is called "connected device Diagnostics" and can also be accessed from Galaxy Wearable applications on smartphones. In addition to checking the battery health of the Galaxy Watch 5, you can also allow diagnostics to be run on the touch screen, speakers and other aspects of the smartwatch.

While the new feature will not extend the battery life of the smartwatch, it will provide a way to focus on health so that users can adjust their charging habits to extend their life. CTOnews.com learned that diagnostics are also notified when the battery of a wearable device needs to be replaced. This feature may also be released for the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Similar diagnostics have been released in the newly updated Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

It is not clear whether this diagnostic feature applies to older smartwatches such as Samsung's Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2.
