The data shows that the emergence of large-scale sweep attacks in 2021 makes the number of attacks at a high level and shows a continuous growth trend, but the number of DDoS attacks in 2022 increased by 8% compared with 2021, becoming the year with the highest number of DDoS attacks.

▲ PixabayCTOnews.com learned that the Report pointed out that in the past year, the large-traffic attack situation was fierce, especially under the rapid development of cloud computing/big data/ AI /video live broadcasting and other industries, the network bandwidth continued to grow at a high speed, and the attack resources were continuously exploited by the black industry, which brought opportunities for them, resulting in a substantial increase in the number of large-traffic attacks above 100 G. Among them, more than 100 G large-flow attacks accumulated more than 10,000 times throughout the year, an increase of more than 50% year-on-year. On average, there will be one large-flow attack of more than 100 G every hour.

In terms of attack peak, the attack peak in 2022 hit a new high, reaching the highest level in years, with a year-on-year growth rate of 15%. Six months of attacks peaked at more than 1Tb, and the annual peak attack reached 1.45 Tbps, exceeding 1.26 Tb in 2021. At the same time, the large-traffic attacks in 2022 show aggregation in time, with Tb attacks concentrated from June to July and November to December, accounting for 94% of Tb attacks in the whole year.

In terms of attack methods, UDP attacks are still the most popular attack methods of DDoS attack groups, accounting for about 60% of all attacks. Tb-level high-traffic attacks are also concentrated in UDP attack methods. Specifically, one-third of Tb-level attacks are based on UDP reflections. The remaining two-thirds of Tb-level attacks were direct, non-reflective UDP packet attacks.
