Apple is already developing a more "affordable" AR / VR device at a price similar to that of the iPhone phone.

The current iPhone 14 model starts at $799 (Bank of China 5999 yuan), and the top Pro Max model with 1TB storage space costs $1599 (Bank of China 13499 yuan), but it is not clear the more specific price range of the cheaper AR / VR device. It is reported that the device will compete with Meta's hybrid reality device, which sells for $1500 (currently about 10155 yuan).

CTOnews.com learned that Apple engineers plan to use more affordable components to lower prices, but lower-priced devices will have the same generic AR / VR "mixed reality" features as products launched in 2023. Chips in low-cost AR / VR devices are comparable to iPhone versions-while the first AR / VR devices will use Mac-class chips-Apple is also likely to use lower-resolution internal displays and cheaper materials.

So far, Apple's more affordable AR / VR device is in the early stages of development and has not yet created a working prototype. The Information said "significant" work on the device began last year, with the goal of launching the cheap device by 2024. According to Bloomberg, Apple may launch an economical hybrid reality device in 2024 or 2025.

For almost all product categories, Apple has high-end and more affordable device versions.

With the focus now on more affordable AR / VR devices, Apple is delaying the augmented reality Apple Glasses it has been developing, Bloomberg said. The launch of the Apple Glasses has been postponed indefinitely and work on the device has been curtailed.

Apple's first AR / VR headset could be launched as early as the spring of 2023, but the device has experienced several delays in the development process. The $3000 price point is due to Apple's use of high-end components, including Sony's dual 4K displays, a dozen cameras, an external battery pack, and so on.
