This is also the first time that China's population has experienced negative growth since 1962 (that is, in the past 61 years).

CTOnews.com learned that 9.56 million people were born in 2022, the birth rate was 6.77 ‰, 10.41 million people died, the population mortality rate was 7.37 ‰, and the natural population growth rate was-0.60 ‰.

In terms of gender composition, there are 722.06 million males and 689.69 million females, and the sex ratio of the total population is 104.69.

In terms of age composition, the working-age population aged 16-59 is 875.56 million, accounting for 62.0% of the national population, accounting for 280.04 million people aged 60 and above, accounting for 19.8% of the national population, of which 209.78 million are aged 65 and above, accounting for 14.9% of the national population.

In terms of the composition of urban and rural areas, the urban resident population was 920.71 million, an increase of 6.46 million over the end of last year; the rural resident population was 491.04 million, a decrease of 7.31 million; and the urban population accounted for 65.22% of the national population (urbanization rate), an increase of 0.50 percentage points over the end of last year.
