CTOnews.com, January 17, according to a report in Taiwan's Economic Daily, semiconductor analyst Lu Xingzhi said today that the capital expenditure of manufacturers in the downward cycle of foundry foundry "is still not cut enough", which will make the recovery from the second half of this year to 2024 relatively moderate. In addition, with the exception of TSMC, most wafer foundries will decline by 8% and 12% this year.

Lu Xing had previously predicted that the capacity utilization rate at the bottom of the first half of this year should be 66%. He believes that both SMC and UMC should be able to hold on to the stands, but the other "pure 8-inch ones are not very good." the main reason is that the 8-inch process was the most out of stock at the beginning, so customers frantically build inventory.

CTOnews.com learned that Lu Xingzhi pointed out that the foundry prices of mainstream products in the wafer foundry downward cycle are relatively stable, mainly due to inflation and the continued increase in semiconductor manufacturing costs. More inventory is not good for future recovery.

According to reports, it is normal that the gross profit margin of the wafer foundry downward cycle has fallen by 10-15 percentage points from the high point, which is different from that of second-and third-tier manufacturers in the past; the decline in gross profit margin is mainly due to an increase in the proportion of depreciation expenses and R & D expenses.
