Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods totaled 11.9642 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.2 percent, accounting for 27.2 percent of the total retail sales of social consumer goods. Among the online retail sales of physical goods, food, clothing and household goods increased by 16.1 percent, 3.5 percent and 5.7 percent respectively.

Overall, in December 2022, retail sales of consumer goods totaled 4.0542 trillion yuan, down 1.8 percent from the same period last year. Of this total, retail sales of consumer goods other than cars totaled 3.5438 trillion yuan, down 2.6 percent. In 2022, retail sales of consumer goods totaled 43.9733 trillion yuan, down 0.2 percent from the previous year. Of this total, retail sales of consumer goods other than cars totaled 39.3961 trillion yuan, down 0.4 percent.

CTOnews.com learned that total retail sales of consumer goods include online retail sales of physical goods, but do not include online retail sales of non-physical goods. Among them, online retail sales refers to the sum of retail sales of goods and services realized through public online trading platforms (including self-built websites and third-party platforms). Goods and services include physical goods and non-physical goods (such as virtual goods, service goods, etc.).

According to the type of consumption, in December 2022, retail sales totaled 3.6385 trillion yuan, down 0.1 percent from the same period last year, and catering income was 415.7 billion yuan, down 14.1 percent. In 2022, retail sales totaled 39.5792 trillion yuan, up 0.5 percent over the previous year, and catering revenue totaled 4.3941 trillion yuan, down 6.3 percent from the previous year.
