On the evening of January 16, Beijing time, it is reported that Tesla was attacked by the German trade union IG Metall and politicians a few days ago, because workers complained that the working conditions at Tesla's German factory were too poor and the working hours were too long.

IG Metall said at its annual news conference that more and more workers are complaining that they work too long hours and have little free time. IG Metall has an office near Tesla's German factory and maintains regular contact with Tesla workers.

Workers are also increasingly afraid to discuss their working conditions openly because they sign a confidentiality agreement along with their work contracts, IG Metall said.

In addition, people are worried about a new position recruited on Tesla's recruitment website. The position is a "security intelligence investigator" whose duty is to work with legal and human resources departments to collect information inside and outside Tesla's factory to protect the company from threats. This further adds to the concerns.

"Tesla's workers were enthusiastic about the project at first, but as time went on, we found that that enthusiasm was fading," IG Metall said in a statement. "Tesla has not done enough to improve working conditions, leaving too little time for workers to rest, relax and spend time with their families."

Tesla has not yet commented on this.

In addition to IG Metall, local German politicians also expressed concern about the allegations made by Tesla's workers and called on Tesla and the local government to investigate.

A local politician said: "the Brandenburg government must strengthen occupational safety through close control of Tesla."

As early as November 2019, Tesla announced plans to build a new factory in Gruenheide, Germany, to meet the fast-growing demand for electric vehicles in Europe. It was not until last year that the factory was officially put into production.
