Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, January 16, according to Omdia's latest market research report, Sony continues to dominate the global CMOS image sensor (CIS) market. Sony's CIS sales in the third quarter were $2.442 billion, accounting for 51.6%.

By contrast, Samsung, the second-largest CIS supplier, currently has only 15.6% of the market. In addition, Howie Technology, on Semiconductor and China Geke Microelectronics (GalaxyCore) ranked behind with a share of 9.7%, 7.0% and 4.0% respectively, while SK Hynix was about to enter the top five with a share of 3.8%.

It is reported that Samsung's sales of CMOS image sensors reached $740 million in the third quarter of 2022, down from $800 million to $900 million in previous quarters.

Market watchers said that one of the reasons for Sony's success is that the Japanese technology giant has won orders for devices such as the Xiaomi 12s Ultra. As all of you at CTOnews.com should know, the latest Xiaomi 13 Pro continues the highly acclaimed Leica image on Xiaomi 12s Ultra and uses Sony's latest IMX 989 sensor.

In 2021, Samsung's market share of CMOS image sensors was 29 per cent, compared with 46 per cent for Sony. In mid-2022, Sony seems to continue to widen the gap between runner-up and runner-up, a trend that market watchers believe will continue.

It is worth mentioning that Sony is expected to supply CMOS image sensors for Apple's upcoming iPhone 15 series, which could further boost its lead.
