CTOnews.com, January 16, according to CCTV news, Unit 1 of Henan Tianchi pumped Storage Power Station passed 15-day trial operation on January 13 and was successfully put into operation.

Tianchi Power Station is located in Mashiping Township, Nanzhao County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. it is a major energy infrastructure project in Henan Province, with a total investment of 6.751 billion yuan, which is composed of upper reservoir, lower reservoir, waterway system, underground powerhouse and ground switch station. the total installed capacity is 1.2 million kilowatts, and four pumped storage units with a single machine capacity of 300000 kilowatts are installed. The designed annual generating capacity is 962 million kilowatt hours, and the annual pumping capacity is 1.283 billion kilowatt hours. Connect to the central China power grid with a 500 kV line.

CTOnews.com learned that pumped storage power stations can make use of the natural drop between upper and lower reservoirs according to the law of peak and valley of power use. when the power load is low, they can use electricity to pump water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir, which can be effectively stored, and the stored potential energy can be converted into electricity needed by users at the peak of electricity consumption.

Tianchi Power Station began construction in June 2015 and plans to put all its units into operation in November 2023. Data show that after the power plant is fully put into operation, it can save 83900 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 230000 tons per year.

During the trial operation, the No. 1 unit started 37 times of pumping and power generation, with a total of 31.374 million kilowatt hours.
