I recently saw a promotional video from Polaroid, which probably means that Polaroid is an imaging camera, but not all imaging cameras are Polaroid.

The problem that was not a problem in the past has finally become a problem now. at first, no one would choose Fuji, everyone played Polaroid, and then everyone played Fuji because there was no Polaroid, and now we have a choice.

The development of New Polaroid has basically gained a foothold in recent years, which has improved a lot compared with when the project was launched 10 years ago, and the quality of photographic paper has also been greatly improved. Fuji has also launched a lot of cameras in the past 10 years, and introduced a new specification.

Today we aim to discuss Fuji's three types of INSTAX products and Polaroid's current ITYPE products, if you want to integrate Polaroid's historical camera, then Fuji is too thin.

Although both Polaroid and Fuji are imaging cameras, they will throw up a picture for you after shooting. The two systems are really poles apart, and it is difficult to find similarities. If friends who play with both of them will think that these are two kinds of things, Polaroid's advertisement is true.

Fuji and Polaroid paper imaging basic principles are not the same, if only consider the quality of photographic paper, Fuji photographic paper quality is indeed better. Its development time is faster, but the most important thing is that it is not affected by temperature. Fuji photographic paper will not deviate from color at 5-35 degrees, turn green when it is below 5 degrees, and turn red when it is higher than 35 degrees. Therefore, the temperature has more influence on the development time of Fuji photographic paper, and it will develop faster when it is hot.

In contrast, many people think that playing Polaroid is like metaphysics, with high scrap rates, especially color and unpredictable brightness.

This is caused by the lack of understanding of the characteristics of Polaroid paper.

Polaroid paper is far more affected by temperature than Fuji, its normal temperature is generally only between 15 and 25 degrees, below 10 degrees will not only turn green, but also lead to underexposure (in fact, underdevelopment), and higher than 25 degrees will turn red. More than 35 degrees, the picture will become blurred.

And the quality control of Polaroid photo paper is not as good as Fuji, so there will be some uneven painting, some debris leading to roller inequality and other problems.

In addition, Polaroid photo paper does not even have a shelf life of Fuji, Fuji is usually two and a half years, Polaroid marking is best shot within one year. Therefore, many stores of Polaroid are refrigerated to keep it as long as possible.

But these problems can also be overcome, such as bringing a warm baby in winter and a cooling paste in summer. The use environment of the primary imaging camera is more indoor, and the temperature problem can be basically solved. And Polaroid has only 8 sheets in a box, which can usually be output all at once.

As for the preservation of photographic paper, Fuji said it can keep the color for 100 years.

Next, let's talk about cameras, which attract more attention than photographic paper.

Because the principle of the Polaroid camera is different from that of Fuji, the shape of the camera is also very different. Generally speaking, Fuji is much more convenient to carry than Polaroid.

From a functional point of view, Fuji cameras are much more stupid than Polaroid cameras, and there are many inhumane designs, such as SQ1 and WIDE300 can not turn off the flash, the sun will flash again. This is stuffed with 800 sensitive paper.

On the contrary, Fuji camera is the MINI series of high-end computers with more complete functions, such as SQ1 and WIDE300 do not even have timing mode, it is very troublesome to take selfies.

But MINI's high-end fuselage is also a collection of functions on the fuselage, which appears to be a bit messy, while the ordinary MINI model does not have many functions.

So even Fuji Polaroid needs to explore for a period of time before it can be sure of the distance, flash and so on.

By contrast, Polaroid's leading product, the ITYPE series of cameras, is not very functional either.

Many friends shoot Polaroid, often take brighter, darker waste films, which is due to the ITYPE camera's backward photometry and unstable flash system. The light metering and flash of the ITYPE camera are linked, the flash has a total of three gear, can always be adjusted (now can also be adjusted, long press the flash button), but its flash is not very sensitive, if the background is brighter than the object, it will be forced to brighten, so as long as you shoot against the white wall, you have to waste 9 out of 10. But facing the dark shot, the power of the flash is not necessarily enough, and it will be completely dark.

Moreover, after one flash of ITYPE, the flash takes a long time to call back, so if you take a continuous shot at this time, the second one will be black. But if you are so conscious that you don't have to let go, the ITYPE camera keeps the shutter open without letting go.

ITYPE generally needs to form an angle with the object so that it is not easy to produce waste film. As Polaroid is more expensive, many friends are very distressed to use it.

But compared with Fuji, Polaroid still has many advantages, it has the function of taking pictures regularly, it can turn off the flash and use it freely outdoors, the now camera can switch lenses according to distance, and some cameras can be connected to mobile phones to play more functions.

It is true that Polaroid cameras are difficult to use, but if you use them more, you will find that they have more functions than Fuji cameras.

From the perspective of product positioning, the two companies basically avoid the specialization of spitting paper, but make it into a toy, daily and interesting direction. So in essence, both machines are simple in structure, and it is foreseeable that they will not launch more professional cameras. Polaroid engraving 690? This is unlikely because the cost is too high.

But in product design, Fuji is really very concerned, especially in the design of limited photo frames. Although the focus of Fuji Polaroid is feminized and daily, the realistic limit frame gives us the feeling of younger age and inferior quality, which is not as good as the white frame.

This is the Fuji rainbow series frame, available in all three sizes, but the color is indescribable, and the real photo paper is very ugly. Fuji doesn't even seem to know which colors to use for gradients. The colors are stiff and ugly.

This is a Polaroid color frame, very traditional, a box has only one color, there are about 20 kinds of colors, only 8 in each box, the solid color feels good and doesn't stand out together.

Polaroid also launched a metal gradient frame this year, which has a much better gradient and design than Fuji and is not as abrupt as Fuji's excessive color.

In the design of the frame, Fuji always seems to be not very happy, although it has also developed many kinds, but in the end, the white box is the most classic. In contrast, Polaroid color frames, special frames are more beautiful, we see on the Internet in Polaroid, special frames are very many.

However, Fuji has a price advantage that Polaroid does not have. Fuji photo paper is not as cheap as it used to be, but it is still cheaper than Polaroid. Fuji mini photo paper is about 5 yuan each, square about 7 yuan, wide width is 8 yuan. But Polaroid the cheapest ITYPE white box, the price of a single sheet is 12 yuan, even if it is temporary, it will not be less than 10 yuan.

But with another algorithm, you will find that Polaroid is not very expensive. The imaging area of Fuji square paper is 6.2 cm square, which is 38.44 square centimeters. Polaroid is 7.9 centimeters square with 62.41 square centimeters, so Fuji has an area of 5.4 square centimeters of 1 yuan, while Polaroid is 5.2 square centimeters of 1 yuan, which is only a little less than the price.

Another interesting phenomenon is that Fuji imaging paper has been a household name for 20 years, but we seldom see photographers use Fuji to create. Obviously we can use Fuji splicing, but we still see a lot of people using Polaroid stitching.

Fuji or Polaroid?

I think Fuji is more about playing, it is very daily, very close to our daily life, although we can also connect Fuji wide photo paper to the back of various cameras, or even large-frame cameras, but for the original intention of Fuji spitting paper, it is designed as part of our life records. Its soul is MINI3, and we can see from our circle of friends that it is well integrated into the lives of many of us.

Polaroid is also used to play, but its area, its photographic paper structure, all reflect another feature, waves. I don't know if you have noticed that Polaroid's advertisements are not very life-like. Polaroid photos often record the highlights of life and are used in certain times and places. Obviously, Polaroid is more artistic and creative.

I feel that people who love photography will eventually play Polaroid if they throw themselves into the world of imaging. It can be resurrected and has its own cultural accumulation, as well as its psychological implications to us.
