CTOnews.com January 16 news, code-named "Nexus" version of Kodi 20 was officially released today. Kodi is a free, open source and cross-platform home theater software for GNU / Linux, Android, Raspberry Pi, iOS, tvOS, macOS and Windows platforms.

Kodi 20 "Nexus" is a major version update of Kodi 19 "Matrix" after 2 years, adding support for PipeWire multimedia server, InputStream AV1 codec, AV1 hardware decoding through VA-API (Video accelerated API) on Linux platform, and so on.

The new version also has preliminary support for NFS version 4 (NFSv4) network file system protocol, WS-Discovery (SMB Discovery) for UNIX platforms (Linux, Android and Apple), AV1 hardware decoding on Android, independent volume settings for GUI sound, a new color picker window dialog, new media logo for HDR videos, and adding video HDR type information to video list items, among others.

Kodi 20 also supports optical media (optical media) by default on Linux, native support for Apple M1 chip, native window and input processing, ACES / Hable tone mapping, and more BiCubic shaders for GLES on Linux, as well as read-only recording.

Kodi 20 "Nexus" has been released as source code tarball so that users can compile on their own systems. Interested CTOnews.com users can download it from the GitHub page of the project.
