CTOnews.com In 2009, just days after Tim Cook was named interim CEO of Apple, he gave the company a mission statement: "We believe we need the ability to own and control the key technologies behind our products." Since then, Apple has become stronger and stronger in terms of supply chain control.

In the more than a decade since he took over as CEO of Apple, he has created his own technology library for Apple by developing chips for phones, tablets, watches, boxes and computers, and has also pioneered the introduction of wireless components inside AirPods and Apple Watch, and developed his own map app.

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg Mark Gurman said Apple has spent about six years developing microLED technology, which will be the company's first custom-designed display product.

Earlier this week, Gurman also said Apple plans to introduce the technology for the new Apple Watch Ultra in 2024. He now adds that if all goes according to plan, Apple will expand such displays to the iPhone, iPad and other product lines in the next few years.

It is worth mentioning that Apple launched its microLED project code-named T159 around 2017, aiming to bring products with higher brightness, brighter colors and wider viewing angles to make the images look more attractive, and will replace the panels currently in use by companies such as Samsung LG.

In fact, Apple has been on the road to full-stack self-development of core technologies since its acquisition of PA Semi in 2008, such as launching its first fully self-developed application processor, the A4 chip, in the original iPad and iPhone 4, ringing the bell of the Apple era.

Apple's mobile chips have been iterated over the past decade and are even now used in products such as Macs and mixed-reality headsets, and will eventually be used in its semi-autonomous cars.

As CTOnews.com reported earlier this week, Apple will also launch more internally-developed products/in-house products in the future, such as cellular modems, which may be one of the three most critical components in the iPhone, but has been delayed several times due to some reasons.

In addition, the company is developing a new component--its own WiFi and Bluetooth module. It is believed that over time, Apple will integrate WiFi and Bluetooth modules and cellular modems into a series of basebands, greatly simplifying the internal design of mobile phones and replacing current products from Qualcomm and Broadcom.

The first Apple Watch with MicroLED screen will be launched in 2025

"Will not produce its own screen, news that Apple is and LG custom production of microLED screen for Apple Watch"
