Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Harry12345, grass Luo Yuzi for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com January 15 news, China's Hong Kong Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Djibouti and Dazhi Road International Holdings Group, announcing that it will cooperate to build a satellite and rocket launch site.

According to reports, the two sides will jointly develop and operate the Djibouti spaceport, and the local government will not only be responsible for the provision of land, but also fully cooperate with the relevant projects.

The entire project of the Djibouti satellite and rocket launch site covers an area of approximately 10 square kilometers and will include seven satellite launchers, three rocket test rigs, satellite and rocket construction bases, as well as Obok port infrastructure and highways for the transport of space materials, as well as power stations, water plants, space ports, roads, ports and other supporting facilities.

According to the report, although cooperation has been signed to build a spaceport in the Republic of Djibouti, the spaceport construction cycle will take at least five years. The whole project has an investment of US $1 billion and will be completed by 2027 at the earliest. It is worth mentioning that the infrastructure will be jointly managed by Djibouti and Chinese companies within 30 years before it will be handed over to Djibouti.

The local government expects the spaceport project to bring hundreds of millions of dollars in economic returns and thousands of technology-related jobs for local people.

According to public information, the Republic of Djibouti, a country located on the west bank of the Gulf of Aden in northeast Africa (latitude 11: 13 °), holds the throat of the Red Sea, has a very important strategic position, and is an active participant in the Belt and Road Initiative project. At present, the largest US military base in Africa happens to be located in Djibouti, which is also the largest French base stationed abroad, and the Japanese self-Defense Forces also have a base here. The Chinese people's Liberation Army has also established the only overseas support base here.

CTOnews.com warned: for space launch missions, especially for satellites in low-Earth orbit, the difference in launch inclination at low latitudes is relatively small, and rockets can be sent into the sky with the help of the speed of the earth's rotation, so the launch process is relatively easier, but it is not conducive to launching orbiting satellites with a large difference between inclination and its latitude. At present, most of the world's space launch sites are located in low latitudes. Here are several typical satellite orbits:

Low inclination low Earth orbit (LEO): low latitude launch has advantages

Geostationary Satellite orbit (GTO): low-latitude launch has advantages

Solar synchronous orbit (SSO): reverse orbit with large inclination angle and disadvantage at low latitude

High inclination or polar orbiting satellites: low latitudes will be a disadvantage

According to Future Market Insights,Inc. According to the Commercial Aerospace Market Research report released in December 2022, the global small satellite market is expected to flourish at a strong compound annual growth rate of 15.3%. By 2033, the market will exceed $55.9 billion, with emerging economies such as India and China growing the fastest.

According to the African Space Industry report released in 2022, Africa's satellite and space industry will be worth US $19.49 billion in 2021. By 2026, that figure is expected to reach $22.64 billion.
