Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, January 15 (Xinhua)-- UpNext, a wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus, is testing a new pilot assistance system, DragonFly, which officials say can save the lives of crew members and passengers in an emergency.
If the crew can not control the aircraft in an emergency, then the DragonFly system can achieve automatic landing and pattern assistance and other operations.
"the purpose of these tests is to better promote the landing of related technologies and improve maneuverability and security," Isabelle Lacaze, head of DragonFly presenter, said in a statement.
Currently, Airbus has tested the technology on the A350-1000 demonstration aircraft, which can automatically land on multiple runways without pilot operation, helping pilots glide around the airport, help control speed, and alert crew members to perceived obstacles.
CTOnews.com learned that DragonFly technology can also take into account external factors such as flight area, terrain and weather conditions to help pilots make more reasonable flight decisions, generate new trajectory plans, and communicate with air traffic control departments.
"inspired by bionics, the system being tested is designed to identify features in the landscape, allowing aircraft to 'see' and fly safely in their surroundings, just as dragonflies are known to have the ability to recognize landmarks," Lacaze said.
Using an A350-1000 demonstration aircraft, Airbus UpNext conducted a taxiing auxiliary test at Blagnak Airport in Toulouse, France. In this test, DragonFly will notify the crew after detecting obstacles, help the crew to control the speed, and use the special airport map to guide the aircraft to land independently, and so on.
