The V / F curve contains the data of each core, such as the lowest voltage corresponding to each frequency. The V / F curve of each SKU is different, and the motherboard knows how much voltage is needed for a particular frequency through the V / F curve. Motherboard manufacturers, including Asustek, use these V / F curves to determine the quality of processors and the overclocking potential of chips.
Asustek has built a feature called Silicon Prediction (SP) on the ROG Maximus and Strix motherboards of the brand. It uses a mathematical formula to evaluate the overclocking performance of the processor according to its V / F curve.
Through this intuitive number, let you know the overclocking ability of the processor. In theory, a higher number means better overclocking performance.
The evaluation method of Igor's Lab is also very simple. More than 480 Intel 13th generation Raptor Lake processors are installed on Asustek's Maximus Z790 Hero motherboard, boot the system, enter BIOS, and record the SP value of each sample.
The data show that of all the Raptor Lake K series chips, Core i9 has the best overclocking performance. For the model Core i9-13900KF, overclocking is the best, with an average SP of 101.1 out of 164test samples. Even the worst Core i9-13900KF scored 91.
The Core i9-13900K with iGPU lags only one line behind its KF counterparts. The average SP of the processor is 99.6 points, less than 2% behind the Core i9-13900KF. Interestingly, however, Core i9-13900K had the highest SP score of 114K.
Core i7-13700K and Core i7-13700KF are quite similar in chip quality. The difference between the two average SP values is less than 1 per cent. Similar to Core i9-13900K and Core i9-13900KF, the KF variant of Core i7-13700K has a slight advantage in overclocking.
When it comes to Core i5-13600K and Core i5-13600KF, the opposite is true. Compared with the KF model (78.5), the average SP (81.8) of the normal K-series model is higher. So what we see is a difference of 4%. Surprisingly, of all the Raptor Lake components tested, the Core i5-13600KF sample was also the worst, with a score of only 58 points.
