Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen, Minnesota, has previously said that its dispatch center received nearly 700 false positives in 2022, all due to Apple iPhone users'"car accident detection" feature.

Eliasen said there is a serious mistouch function in the iPhone 14 model and Apple Watch's "car accident detection" function, especially when users are involved in outdoor sports such as skiing.

Eliasen said that after receiving these false positives, dispatchers must send emergency personnel to the location unless dispatchers call to confirm that it is a false alarm. In some cases, this involves the dispatch of rescue teams, law enforcement personnel, EMS personnel, etc.
