CTOnews.com Apple released the second Beta update to iOS 16.3 earlier this week, and for now, iOS 16.3 is a very small update that introduces only one new feature and two minor tweaks. The iOS 16.3 update fixes bugs and improves security.

iOS 16.3 will be officially released next month, and Apple may release more new features in subsequent Beta versions, but it is unlikely. CTOnews.com comes with three feature details improved in iOS 16.3:

Apple Security Keys

iOS 16.3 Beta 1 introduces new Security Keys for Apple ID, which Apple says will be rolled out globally early this year.

This feature gives users the option to use hardware security keys to further protect their accounts. After Apple users enable this feature, Security Keys can require the use of hardware security keys instead of mobile phone Captcha to enhance Apple's two-factor authentication.

Apple has no plans to release its own hardware security keys. Apple users can use third-party security keys such as YubiKey 5Ci to access the feature. YubiKey 5Ci has Lightning and USB-C ports and can be used for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

HomePod Handoff Prompt

As Max Weinbach pointed out on Twitter, the first iOS 16.3 beta to transfer music from iPhone to HomePod will show up with new prompts. This feature already exists, but Apple has now added a reminder.

Modify wording of emergency SOS settings

In the second beta of iOS 16.3, Apple has tweaked the wording of some emergency SOS options in the Settings app to make them clearer.

"Call with Hold" is now "Call with Hold and Release,""Call with 5 Presses" is now "Call with 5 Button Presses,""Countdown Sound" is now "Call Quietly." Apple has also updated the description of these features. By default, Call Quietly is disabled.
