CTOnews.com, January 13 (Xinhua)-- Apple has announced that since the launch of App Store in 2008, Apple has paid a cumulative total of $320 billion (2.16 trillion yuan) to developers. It also means that Apple has earned about $125 billion (842.5 billion yuan) in commissions over the past 14 years. MacWorld, a foreign technology media, shared Apple's App Store revenue over the years.

Apple adjusted its fee structure in 2021, so it was impossible to determine the exact revenue of the App Store. Apple, which used to charge a 30 per cent commission, has changed its strategy to reduce the commission to 15 per cent for developers earning no more than $1 million in the previous year. In addition, after the first year, Apple charges a 15% commission on automatic subscription renewal.

If you factor in Apple's other projects, App Store's total revenue is close to $450 billion (about 3.03 trillion yuan). Despite a slowdown in growth, with 2022 unchanged from 2021, Apple earns about $20 billion a year from third-party apps. So it's not hard to see why Apple protects this part of the business so much.

The situation of App Store is likely to change dramatically in 2023. It is reported that Apple will allow side loading in some countries, which will enable users to download applications from outside App Store.

At the current rate of development, Apple's App Store could exceed $1 trillion (about 6.74 trillion yuan) in cumulative revenue over the next seven years.
