Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com January 12 news, following IDC, data consulting firm Canalys also released its 2022 global PC report.

Analysts pointed out that the global PC market ended 2022 in a downturn, with total desktop and laptop shipments falling 29% to 65.4 million units in the fourth quarter, the fourth consecutive quarterly decline due to lower consumer spending in the broader economic environment.

According to the data, the total global PC shipments in 2022 were 285.1 million units, down 16% from the peak demand in 2021. Despite this, shipments are still up compared to before the outbreak, with total shipments at least 7% higher in 2022 than in 2019.

It is worth mentioning that laptop data fell more sharply relative to desktops, with shipments falling 30% to 51.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022 and 19% to 223.8 million units for the full year. Of course, desktop performance is only slightly better, with Q4 down 24% to 14.1 million units and 2022 down 7% to 61.3 million units.

Canalys senior analyst Ishan Dutt said: "As expected, the global PC market faced further pressure in the fourth quarter,""especially as notebook and desktop shipments hit record highs in the same period in 2021. "Spending on big-ticket items such as PCs has taken a back seat as energy and basic goods costs rise in key markets such as the U.S. and Europe and consumers prepare to delay the refresh cycle. At the same time, on the business side, both public and private sector budgets are facing tightening due to higher interest rates, slower hiring and expectations of a recession early this year. "

Let's look at the market segment next. Lenovo still ranked first in the PC market in the fourth quarter of 2022, with shipments of 15.5 million units, down 29% year-on-year; Lenovo was also the largest PC manufacturer in 2022, with total shipments of 68.1 million units, down 17% from 2021.

HP ranked second, with shipments falling 29% to 13.2 million units in the fourth quarter; shipments for the full year of 2022 fell 25% to 55.2 million units.

Dell, which ranked third, saw shipments fall 37% to 10.8 million units in the fourth quarter, the biggest drop among Tier 1 vendors. However, its total shipments in 2022 fell only 16% to 49.7 million units.

Apple ranked fourth in both the fourth quarter and the full year, with Mac shipments of about 27.16 million units in 2022, down 6.2%, overall performing well.

ASUS ranked fifth in the fourth quarter, with shipments of only 4.866 million units, down 19.9%, while shipments for the year reached 20.616 million units, down only 4%.

Data consultancy IDC released yesterday PC market shipment data for the fourth quarter of 2022 showed that global shipments of traditional PCs in the fourth quarter of 2022 were lower than expected, only 67.2 million units, down 28.1% from the same period a year earlier, which is basically consistent with Canalys data, as previously reported by CTOnews.com.
