CTOnews.com, January 12, according to a Microsoft internal memo disclosed by foreign technology media The Verge, Microsoft Chief personnel Officer Kathleen Hogan announced that the company will no longer set a limit on the number of days off for American employees.

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft calls these benefit adjustments "Discretionary Time Off" and applies to all full-time employees in the United States.

"the way, when and where we work has changed dramatically," Hogan explained in the memo. "in the course of our transformation, we need to adjust our existing vacation policy to make it more modern and flexible."

The adjustment will take effect on January 16, meaning that even new employees no longer need to accumulate seniority to get the corresponding vacation time.

Microsoft will provide 10 days of corporate leave, personal leave, sick and mental health leave, jury leave or bereavement leave, on the basis of which there will be no limit on the number of days off. Employees with unused leave will receive an one-time pay in April.

All hourly workers at Microsoft and employees outside the United States will not enjoy unlimited leave benefits. Microsoft said it was difficult for federal and state wage and hour laws to provide unlimited leave for hourly workers, and that people outside the United States would retain their current leave benefits because of different laws and regulations in other countries.

Microsoft is certainly not the first big technology company to take unlimited vacations. Cloud computing giant Salesforce, Microsoft's LinkedIn, software company Oracle and audio-visual platform Netflix all offer employees similar unlimited leave policies.
