CTOnews.com, January 12 (Reuters)-American Airlines said it expected operations to return to normal on Thursday, local time, as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tried to identify the causes of computer glitches that grounded flights across the country and prevent such incidents from happening again.

More than 11300 U.S. flights were delayed or cancelled Wednesday local time, the first time domestic flights have been grounded in about 20 years, according to FlightAware.

A computer glitch at the Federal Aviation Administration has prevented airports from submitting up-to-date safety notices warning pilots of potential dangers such as runway closures, equipment disruptions and construction, resulting in the temporary suspension of flights.

FAA officials said the preliminary review traced the problem to a corrupted database file, but added that there was no evidence of a cyber attack and that the investigation was continuing. People familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the same file on the primary and backup systems had been damaged.
