CTOnews.com, January 12 (Xinhua)-- Apple's next generation of 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips were scheduled to launch in early 2023, but the launch of these laptops is now expected to be "delayed again," according to DigiTimes research.

The report does not provide a revised release schedule for the new MacBook Pro. Apple plans to release new laptops in the first half of this year, Bloomberg Mark Gurman said in a newsletter over the weekend, adding that they will have the same design and features as current models, but with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Gurman said that compared with the current M1 Pro and M1 Max, the performance of these chips has not improved much.

Earlier, Gurman said Apple planned to release a new MacBook Pro in the first quarter of 2023, associated with macOS 13.3, but it was unclear whether those plans had changed. According to Gurman's latest schedule for the first half of 2023, the new MacBook Pro is expected to be released at Apple's WWDC conference in June at the latest, but hopefully sooner.

CTOnews.com learned that TSMC, Apple's chip manufacturing partner, began mass production of 3nm chips in late December last year, but there are conflicting reports about whether M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are 3nm or 5nm like M1 Pro and M1 Max.

Citing supply chain sources, the rest of the report focuses on the possibility that MacBook shipments could fall 40 to 50 per cent month-on-month in the first quarter of 2023. Apple "adjusted its shipping rate" by adding Wentai Technology as an MacBook assembler, the report said, which was the main reason for the sharp decline.
