At least 12 Twitter international branches have been closed or are being closed, and several more US branches are likely to close in the coming weeks, according to people familiar with the matter. Since Musk joined Twitter two months ago, thousands of employees have been laid off or fired, and many have left voluntarily.

The closures include branches in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Mexico and Africa, where employees were laid off in November, according to people familiar with the matter. Most branches in Australia, South Korea and Europe and India have also been closed or are likely to close in the coming weeks, according to people familiar with the matter.

It is reported that as the headquarters of Twitter in Asia, a large branch in Singapore may also be closed because of non-payment of rent. The owner of the office building of Twitter in Singapore did not comment. Some other branches were also closed because Twitter did not pay the rent.

Twitter previously had more than 20 international branches. According to people familiar with the matter, they are currently discussing a significant reduction in the number of branches, only in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles in the United States, as well as in London, Tokyo and Dublin overseas.

A spokesman for Twitter could not be reached for comment.

The last time Twitter opened a new branch was in Ghana in 2021, and it was the first time they landed in Africa in an official capacity.

Most of the other international branches are small business operation outposts, including engineering and advertising sales departments. Almost all of Twitter's revenue comes from advertising, but under Musk's leadership, the business is struggling.

As the financial situation deteriorated and ambitious subscription plans failed to meet expectations, Musk continued to cut costs and lay off staff. Benefits, allowances and even cleaners have been cut. Twitter continued to cut jobs in its trust, security and commercialization divisions last week, and some employees are often fired for angering Musk in one way or another.
